FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. Who can carry out fire door inspections?
A. It is imperative that you engage with a fire door inspector with the correct Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Behaviours to ensure they can thoroughly and correctly survey all aspects of your fire doors, reporting clearly on the true facts, avoiding any up-selling or over-prescribing of replacement fire doors.
Q. How much does a fire door survey cost?
A. We price our fire door compliance surveys bespoke to your building, location and building use. This way, we ensure you receive a correct price from the offset. Like our clients, we do not like to have to send additional charge notifications because we didn’t ask you the correct information from the offset. There are other companies who price surveys cheaply as they inspect minimal aspects of your fire doors and have only ever completed a 1-day training course. Other companies work to the theory they can gain repair and replacement works from you following their surveys, so this may result in a cheaper initial survey quote.
Q. How often should fire doors be inspected?
A. This is not a straightforward question to answer, although it is a common question. The regularity of your fire door inspections will be dependant upon your building size, usage, occupants, etc. As a general rule, every fire door inspection should take place every 6 to 12 months as a minimum, with other fire doors that are in high traffic areas or within a taller building, for example, being inspected every 1 to 3 months. Speak to us about your building and we will be able to best advise on how often to inspect your fire doors.
Q. What actually is a fire door and why are they needed?
A. Fire doors are an integral part of the fire safety of a building. Their main purpose is to slow the spread of fire and smoke from one area/room to another, known as fire compartments. A well manufactured, installed and maintained fire door will hold back fire for, generally, 30 or 60 minutes, allowing time for people to escape the building safely, containing the fire, to allow the fire brigade an improved chance of tackling the fire prior to further damage being caused.
